Uncovered Emails Show Jeffrey Epstein and Summers as Close Associates
Multiple exchanges between found guilty sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein and former US finance chief Larry Summers came to light this week, revealing the pair served as trusted allies.
Their correspondence, dating from 2013 to early 2019, reveal the two men sharing private â and at times questionable â opinions on politics and relationships.
I am attempting to figure why [the] American elite feel if u murder your baby by beating and abandonment it must be irrelevant to your entry to Harvard,â|âIâm trying to|I am attempting to|I'm struggling to} figure why [the] American elite think if u murder your baby by beating and abandonment it must be irrelevant to your admission to Harvard,â} Summers wrote to Epstein in a 2017 email. However hit on a few women 10 years ago and cannot work at a network or think tank. DO NOT SHARE THIS INSIGHT.â
At that time, Harvard University was grappling with an enrollment discussion after a previously incarcerated womanâs acceptance to a PhD program. Summers, a one-time president of the university who resigned amid a uproar after making gender-biased comments about female academics, went on to say in the email to Epstein: âI observed that half of the IQ in [the] world was held by women without noting they are more than 51 percent of the populace.â
Summers was previously a key player in Democratic circles â a one-time treasury secretary in the Clinton administration, one of the main engineers of Barack Obamaâs approach to the economic downturn, and a committed figure in the progressive media. But questions have lingered about his connection with Epstein, a longtime connection of Donald Trump. Epstein was alleged to have run a extensive child sex trafficking operation before his death in jail in 2019 in New York City.
Following disclosure of a earlier batch of emails between Epstein and Summers in a 2023 report, a agent for Summers commented that he âdeeply regrets being in contact with Epstein after his convictionâ.
Democratic Party lawmakers released emails from the Epstein estate this week that suggest Epstein believed Trump was knew about conduct by the now-convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. In response, Republican lawmakers published a more extensive collection of 20,000 emails from the Epstein estate.
The released materials show that Summers kept up amicable contact with the found guilty child sex trafficker well into 2019, with the final email exchange taking place only months before Epsteinâs apprehension.
Trump wrote on Truth Social on Friday that he would be asking the Department of Justice and the FBI to investigate Epsteinâs âparticipation and associationâ with Summers, among other prominent liberal leaders and business leaders.
In the emails, Summers and Epstein discuss politics â particularly Summersâs dislike for Trump â as well as the details of philanthropic social networking â and women. Summers, 70, disclosed to Epstein in a 2019 exchange about his advances toward an unnamed woman, and being rebuffed.
âshes smart. making you pay for past errors,â Epstein replied in an exchange on 16 March. âdisregard the 'daddy' comment, I'm going out with the motorcycle guy, you handled it well.. irritation indicates concern., no complaining demonstrated strength.â
Summers affirmed his sorrow in a recent statement. âI harbor significant regrets in my lifetime,â he said. âAs I have said before, my association with Jeffrey Epstein was a major error of judgement.â
Summers was president of Harvard University from 2001 to 2006. Epstein gave more than $9m to Harvard and its associated programs between 1998 and 2008, and was appointed a visiting fellow to carry out research. The university later found Epstein âwas missing the academic qualifications visiting fellows normally possess and his application suggested a course of study Epstein was unqualified to pursueâ.
Harvard only discontinued accepting Epsteinâs donations after he pleaded guilty to child sex offenses in 2008.
By then Obamaâs profile was growing. Summers would eventually win appointment as director of the White House National Economic Council from January 2009 until November 2010.
After Summers departed the White House, he began soliciting Epstein for charitable advice for his wife, Elisa New, a Harvard professor working on a poetry project. Epstein and his foundations made gifts to projects connected to Summersâs wife, and the two men met a multiple times between 2013 and 2016, often for dinner.
After media coverage about Epsteinâs donations emerged, Newâs charity made a donation âabove and beyondâ of that received to anti-exploitation organizations.
