This Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Be Super Effective Against Speculators
To celebrate the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting collaboration is underway. Pokémon's creators alongside London's Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store stocked with exclusive items. Fans will find offerings including plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies that are inspired by the museum's aesthetic. For collectors, though, is a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. The store will operate both the physical location and online from January 26 to April 19.
The Book Behind the Collaboration
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a much-awaited tome packed with stunning illustrations depicting Pokémon in their wild environments. It's essentially is the kind of research an in-world scientist might publish after trainers submit their data, alternatively a naturalist's journal might have created if the famous islands were populated by Pidgeys rather than finches. Part of the charm lies in the book's scholarly approach, treating Pokémon as worthy of subject for inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara and illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.
What Makes This Special Card Stand Out
The company regularly for The Pokémon Company to release promos celebrating big events or brand collaborations. A lot such collector items typically highlight the iconic electric rodent that acts as the franchise mascot. The factor setting this new promotion apart however, is the unusually large size. While exact measurements have not been publicly disclosed, its distribution is guaranteed to be strictly limited, with fans limited to only a single card per purchase.
Curbing Reseller Activity
According to an official statement, some of the merchandise will also be sold beyond the institution itself. But, broader availability will only be select retailers within the United Kingdom. Importantly, fans cannot acquire the card via the official web shop. Although reseller interest is a given, the setup suggests they're going to have trouble hoarding mass quantities on this occasion. If you're feeling left out, there is an alternative like fossil-themed display coming to Chicago in the coming months.
"Every penny of sales made in the Museum shop and its web shop, including these items, go toward the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. That encompasses the efforts of 400 scientists dedicated to scientific inquiry to discover solutions to the planetary emergency," the statement notes.
