England to Start Euro 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will initiate their Euro 2028 campaign at the the home of Manchester City, on the condition that they achieve the anticipated entry for a tournament taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

City’s stadium has not hosted an English men’s game since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is highly likely to welcome the England side for their first match on June 10, 2028.

The English side are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top their group, their last-16 tie would occur at St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean beginning the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Launch and Protest

The event was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were barracked as they entered the location by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded the Israeli team to be removed from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Signs were displayed with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The inaugural fixture of the tournament will be played at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a game that will involve the Welsh team if they secure a place.

Wembley will host both semi-finals and the championship match, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a start time at late afternoon.

It is expected that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for European club finals from the following campaign, will appeal to family audiences and help reach a wider spectrum of audiences.

Qualifying Teams

The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and the Scottish team would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will take part in the qualifying tournament; two reserved places will be reserved for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through that route.

Stadiums and Playoffs

Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches held at every host’s main arena.

The qualification draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a host city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.

Leadership Comment

“This will be a competition for the followers and a festival of everything we cherish about the sport – its fervor and capacity to bring people together.”

More than three million admissions, a unprecedented number for a Euro tournament, are projected to be offered to supporters.
