A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
